Synthetale — Privacy Policy
1. Controller and contact
The controller is Artifinal Mikołaj Rej, ul. Wyzwolenia 48G, 78-131 Dźwirzyno, Poland. Privacy requests and problem reports: [email protected]. This policy covers the Android app. Visiting external websites also involves their own privacy policies.
2. No account, advertising or remote reading analytics
The app does not require an account. Your nickname is stored locally. This version has no advertising, purchases, subscriptions or automatic remote reading analytics. Network services may process the data described below.
3. Data stored on the device
Books, library records, reading and listening progress, bookmarks, highlights, statistics, goals, search history, preferences and acceptance of the terms are stored on your device. Voice generation takes place on your device. We do not send your imported books or their text to an online speech service.
4. Network requests and recipients
Searching and browsing the catalog sends your query and selected filters to our catalog service, hosted by Supabase. Recording a download sends the book identifier. Downloading books, covers and the voice model connects to their providers, including Wolne Lektury, Project Gutenberg and Cloudflare. These providers receive your IP address, the requested resource and information about the app and request, and may keep operational and security logs. Opening an external link connects you to that website under its own privacy policy.
5. Purposes and legal bases
Local processing supports the reading, listening and personalization functions you request. Where personal data is processed to provide the agreed service, the basis is performance of the contract (GDPR Article 6(1)(b)). Necessary operational security, abuse prevention and handling ordinary support correspondence rely on legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)); compliance with applicable legal obligations relies on Article 6(1)(c). We do not use acceptance of the terms as blanket consent to unrelated data processing. Our hosting/infrastructure providers process the data needed for their services; a book host may act as a separate controller under its own policy. Their role and applicable transfer arrangements depend on the service being used. Where processing involves an international transfer, the applicable GDPR transfer requirements must be met; contact us for information about the relevant recipients and safeguards.
6. Local diagnostics and voluntary contact
The app stores local troubleshooting information about the device and system, app activity, performance and errors, for up to five diagnostic sessions. It is not sent automatically. If you contact us, we receive your email address, message and any attachments you choose to send; these are processed by our email provider. Check attachments and do not send passwords or unnecessary personal data.
7. Retention and deletion
Local data remains until removed through the app, Android settings or uninstallation, subject to system backups and cache management. Removing a book retains some associated records so that re-adding the same book can restore its progress and statistics. The reading-data deletion command removes reading/listening progress, bookmarks, highlights, reading sessions, accumulated statistics, goal history, completion records and search history; it retains book files, favorites, the current goal and other preferences. Clearing Android app storage removes the local app data. Operational logs are retained according to the service configuration and only for the periods needed for operation, security and investigation of incidents; contact us for details applicable to your request. Support correspondence is retained for handling the request and, where necessary, compliance with legal duties or establishing, exercising or defending legal claims. Aggregate catalog counters do not identify an app account and are not reset by deleting a local book.
8. Android backup and device transfer
Depending on your Android and device settings, system backup or device transfer may include app preferences, library records, progress, annotations and statistics. Book files are excluded from cloud backup but may be included in device transfer. The voice model, temporary audio and diagnostic files are excluded from both. Restoration depends on your device and settings. Deleting local data does not necessarily delete an earlier backup; manage backups through the relevant system service.
9. Permissions and security
Internet access supports catalogs and downloads; notifications support playback and downloads. The app does not request camera, microphone or location access. You select files to import through the system file picker. App-controlled remote connections use HTTPS. Protect your device, backups and any attachments you share. No system guarantees absolute security.
10. Your rights
Where GDPR applies, you may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction or portability of personal data, and object to processing based on legitimate interests, subject to the relevant conditions. You may complain to a supervisory authority, including the President of the Polish Personal Data Protection Office (UODO). Contact us at [email protected]. We do not hold a remote user account or a remotely synchronized copy of your local library, so we may be unable to identify or erase data that exists only on your device; use the local controls for it. We may request proportionate information to identify a support record or network request, without asking for unrelated secrets.
11. Audience and changes
The app is a general literature reader, not a supervised children's service. We do not request a date of birth or create child accounts. The open catalog may contain books unsuitable for younger readers. This policy describes the current MVP; any later analytics, advertising, account or other material data-processing feature requires an updated assessment and policy, and any notice or consent required by law. The current policy is also published at https://artifinal.com/synthetale/privacy/.
